Semenyo made pure magic out of nothing
A wild fifth weekend delivered 15 double-digit hauls while average scores barely scraped past three.
Fifteen players hit double digits this week, yet the average score was a dismal 3.2 points. If you felt like everyone in your mini-league caught a massive haul except you, the math says you were probably right.

Two men topped the chart with 17 points apiece, but they got there by completely different routes.
Brobbey cooked up three goals for
Sunderland against
Man City from 2.35 xG. That is proper forward play. He ran into space, got fed big chances, and tucked them away.
Then you have
Semenyo. He scored twice and set up another despite accumulating just 0.16 xG and 0.17 xA. His goals minus xG was an absurd 1.84 in a single match. That is not a repeatable strategy. That is a man kicking a ball through a wall and watching it hit the top corner twice.

When you put
Brobbey and
Semenyo side by side, the underlying numbers tell you who to trust going forward.

Defenders had a quietly huge weekend if they put their foot in. Out of 97 defenders who played, 22 hit their defensive action threshold to collect extra points. Compare that to the attack: only 14 of 185 midfielders and forwards managed it.
Schuster took full advantage. He picked up an assist, a clean sheet, and three bonus points on his way to 14 points for
Brentford. His 16 defensive actions were more than double anyone else in the top points bracket.
At the expensive end of the market,
Haaland remains the anchor of the game. He sits on 39 points for the season with 4.42 xG from 450 minutes played. His underlying rate of 0.99 xGI per 90 is comfortably the best among regular starters.
Season to date rates for players with over 400 minutes.
The data shows a few players due a correction soon.
Thiago has generated 3.13 xG this season for
Brentford but has scored just once. His goals minus xG sits at -2.13. He is missing chances, but he is getting into the spots.
Barry is another budget forward making noise without the rewards yet. His 0.79 xGI per 90 puts him tied with
Isak, yet he costs just 5.6m and is owned by 8.1% of teams.
One gameweek is a tiny sample. Do not sell your team to buy
Semenyo off a 0.16 xG day. Check your bench, look at who is actually getting chances, and lock in your captain before the deadline.
